Local cat loses face to
Sat. night (March 28, 2009) about 8:30 PM Ii got a call about a hurt cat , telling me his face was messed up bad, they said he would come to them but did not want to touch him , they had already called the Pitt county sheriffs Dept., Saving Graces, and everyone else they could. When calling the Humane Soc , their answering machine , gives out my phone number , so they called. When I told them I would take the cat ONLY if they got it here themselves, "no way" they said, they did not want to touch him. So I sort of went on to the lady telling her "Yes I did take just about any animal if I can, but its hard trying to care ,feed ,do vets bills and all it takes to care for any animal , i still would not go out , as i was still trying to finish feeding and cleaning up animals for the night." I then asked her to call James and Cindy Satterthwaite, and if they were home they would pick the cat up for me . as they both have very big hearts when it comes to animals. So out in the rain and storm they went to get this poor cat , calling me when they got him Cindy told me what he looked like , so I went to Ayden to go half way so they would not have so far to drive. This poor cat has bites all over and smelled to high heavens , his face is just about gone , all of his nose is torn off and the center 1/3 of his upper lip is gone , when I got him in the house and looked at him my heart just broke !!! So skinny, hurt, no face and just all the way around in just bad shape. So I started him on meds, fluids , vitamins ,and cleaned him up the best I could , HE is so sweet ! He goes to the litter pan, eats baby food and lets you do what ever you want to him. I gave him a bath today and he just looked at me as if to say this feels so good , and thank you for taking me in. So now he smells better and looks better, some what. I washed off his face and he just took it all in. He has been hurt for some time , and tomorrow he will go to a vets office to see if there is some way to help him out, I hope so. He will live here just like Mr. Peel if all works out. Just one more reason why people should try to keep their pets home if they can. He is someone's pet, never to go home again , and if the vets can help him he will never be an outside cat. If anyone would like to help on his vet, bills or just call and check on his outcome please contact us. PS: The lady who called,
donated $25.00 to his support. C.J. is his name now.... Latest UPDATE On C.J. C.J. Gets a new face..! Dr. DVM Pinney did the work on him. He is looking great and doing very good. He will go back to Dr. Pinney's in about 10 days to be looked at, then he will get one more surgery to finish pulling the skin down to cover up the rest of his mouth where you still can see part of his teeth. *************VERY SAD UPDATE*********** RIP
C.J. C.J's story was a hard one just knowing all that he must have gone through before i got him .and all the days and night he had to suffer all by his self . With all the infection that had all ready set in and all the pain he was in he was a very good cat , just letting me give him a bath cleaning up his face , giving shots and other meds , feeding him with a tube , and he just took it all in without a fight , as for his story were DVM Pinney had taken such good care of him ,worked on him , to help his face look better and get well . It was just not enough. For you who did not know, we had had a spring rabies clinic that day , when he came in to me that night , he was given a rabies shot by his new vet, Dr. Pinney , just to get started , after all he went through the day he was to go back to get looked at he was not acting good , over the Easter weekend he went from being loving, to just "leave me alone" , only to get so mad you could not touch him , and just with one fast bite , i knew what was up .and yes by the time he was at the vets office no one could work with him , he was tested for rabies , and came back that he did have rabies , for all this cat went through, who ever had him for a pet must have thought that he did not need a rabies shot , just one $5.00 rabies shot is all he needed , but it was too late, the shot we gave him would not help as he already had rabies by what ever animal had messed him up so bad. In the end 19 people had to get shots because of C.J. having rabies, I am just so grateful that his last days he had people who did love and care for him , and he was not left outside to hurt and die alone like so many animals do when their masters do not care enough to get their shots and a nice safe home to live in. There is no way people will know what he went through and all of us who cared for him went through. The hurt and pain was just too much , please take this story of C.J's life at heart and get your pets their rabies shot , in loving memory of C.J .from Marti Brinson (my heart still hurts for you ) !
Goodbye C.J., you didn't deserve this. |
